YOU’VE GOT THE POWER...
BODY TALK FOR YOUNG MEN

The You’ve Got the Power: CD-ROM takes three hours to fully explore and is specifically aimed at African American teen males. This innovative computer-based intervention is part of the ongoing cooperative work among the Jane Fonda Center, Grady Health System, and Morehouse School of Medicine. Its purpose is to help young African American males avoid risky health behaviors.
- Although young males long have been the target of video game-makers, they have not been specifically targeted by health educators using technology.
- Using game elements in a computer-based health education intervention can capture the attention of young men and help them acquire needed health information and skills in a user-friendly way.
- Video role-modeling on a CD-ROM by other African American males -- high school students, college students, successful business men, fathers, and grandparents -- can deliver powerful messages about health in a unique style.
- Engagement with an innovative CD-ROM targeting young African American males enables young men to see they “have the power” to choose healthy lifestyles and reduce devastating health disparities in later life.
