WEBSITE RESOURCES FOR TEENS

Issue: A major purpose of establishing the Community Technology Center is to encourage low-income youth and their parents to obtain health information. However, age and subject appropriate health information has to be accessed quickly to maximize time spent on computers while waiting for care.

Project: Institute a web search and review process to identify fifty (50) of the most useful websites for teens coming to reproductive health care settings and make the websites available to young people.

Result:

Teens are being given an opportunity to access highly-rated teen-friendly health information without having to conduct lengthy searches themselves. A list of top sites identified by the Health-Related Web Page Review Project has been placed in self-standing plastic tri-view holders next to the each computer along with guidance for use of the computers.

Finding information quickly enhances satisfaction with computer use and increases opportunities to gain greater knowledge.
