"This is very good information for teens. Excellent!"

Teen Patient

SUBSTANCE USE
AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

Issue:

Reproductive health can be affected by substance use, however, that connection is not often made by teenagers.

Project:

Create a multi-media presentation running on a computer that helps teens understand how alcohol or other drug use can reduce teens' ability to think clearly and lead to poor choices about sex and later regret. Include information on how substance use can affect hormones and sexual functioning. Make sure that the intervention takes no more than the average 15 minutes waiting time in a teen clinic.

Result:

Adolescents become conscious that “it’s all connected” and that the consequences of substance use can be multiple. The opportunity to learn about the relationship between substance use and reproductive health can strengthen teen desires to keep their actions under control and avoid unnecessary damage to their reproductive health and future.
