PARENTS AND COMPUTERS
Issue: |
Many low-income parents are not aware of the usefulness of computers and their potential to provide valuable health information as well as a better future for their children. |
Project: |
Offer opportunities in health care sites for low-income parents and their children to learn more about using computers and enable them to personally gather computer-based health information. |
Result: |
Parents are taking advantage of learning about computers and are accessing health information in a new way. Parental understanding of the value of computers in their own and their child’s life is increasing. A third of surveyed parents (33%) who did not have a computer in their home said it made them want to help their child use a computer more. Even more (62%) of the surveyed parents said that the experience of working with the computers themselves or watching their child access a computer made them want to get their own computer. |
