Managing Pressures Before Marriage

MANAGING PRESSURES
BEFORE MARRIAGE
Updating the
Young Teen Educational Series

Issue:

Young people in middle school often do not receive reinforcement for values that encourage waiting until marriage before having sex.

Project:

Produce 15 new video segments and create a new updated manual for the middle school version of Managing Pressures Before Marriage Educational Series for Young Teens.

Result:

Young teens are being given the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to resist pressures to have sex before marriage using a newly updated Managing Pressures Before Marriage Series.

The Managing Pressures Educational Series recognizes that young teens need opportunities to think about and discuss social and peer pressures about sex in a guided way.

Through the Series teens decide on a stopping point and learn skills that enable them to carry out saying “no” to sex in a variety of problem situations commonly faced by teens. Young people are helped to conclude that they should wait to have sex until they are in a committed marital relationship.

INFORMATION

NATIONWIDE

Fewer 15-17 year old never-married teenagers have had sex in recent years.

The Jane Fonda Center is placing much effort on helping middle school youth (ages 12-15) develop attitudes and skills to avoid sexual involvement. We are, in essence, buying time for young people to grow and mature—find out who they are and what they really want in life.
