Male Appearing on You've Got the Power CD-ROM

OVERCOMING MALE HEALTH DISPARITIES

Issue:

More than 80% of premature excess deaths among minorities are caused by preventable illness and diseases, i.e. stroke, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, infant morality. Overall, African American males experience the greatest health disparities.

Project:

Create a health education tool to help adolescent African American males adopt healthier lifestyles. Take advantage of the interest that all young men have in sex to show them the relationship between overall health and reproductive health.

Result:

An interactive CD-ROM for African American teen males interweaving information about health and its relationship to manhood and sexual functioning.

Through game playing, puzzles, quizzes and role modeling, more young men will have the information and understanding they need to choose healthy lifestyles now and begin avoiding later life debilitating illnesses.
