Teen Patient on Computer Use

FEMALE HEALTH EXAMINATION

Issue:

Girls experience a natural apprehension when it comes to their first pelvic and breast examination. Such hesitancy can make them delay needed care or become tense so that the exam is more difficult than it needs to be.

Project:

Create a multi-media presentation running on a computer that clearly explains what takes place during a pelvic and breast examination. Also provide reassurance and support in such a manner that it allays teen fears. Make sure that the intervention takes no more than the average 15 minutes waiting time in a teen clinic.

Result:

More patients are being better prepared for their first pelvic and breast exam. Being knowledgeable leads to better initial examination experiences. Teens feel good that they are taking responsibility for their bodies and protecting their reproductive health. Favorable early experiences help establish positive patterns of caring for reproductive health throughout life.
