HELPING CLINICS
BECOME TEEN FRIENDLY

Issue:

Coming to a clinic for reproductive health care the first time can be intimidating for teens because they don’t know what to expect.

Project:

Create a multi-media presentation running on a computer that walks teens through exactly what will happen during their clinic visit and explains what services are available. Give teens praise and encouragement for coming to get care. Make sure that the intervention takes no more than the average 15 minutes waiting time in a teen clinic.

Result:

Teen patients who are new to a health care site or new to reproductive health care have an opportunity to be prepared for the various components of a medical visit. Teens increase confidence about having made the choice to come for care. Helping teens know what to expect during visits makes clinics more teen-friendly which contributes to greater satisfaction with the health care experience.
