BIRTH CONTROL CHOICES

Issue:

Adolescents do not always have a clear understanding that their choice of a birth control method should be based on what is best for them--not on what a friend is using--or only on the methods that they have heard about.

Project:

Create a multi-media presentation running on a computer that gives teens an understanding of what they need to consider in making a birth control choice and what methods generally are recommended for teens. Make sure that the intervention takes no more than the average 15 minutes waiting time in a teen clinic.

Result:

A new addition to an increasing arsenal of health presentations useful to programs providing reproductive health information and services. Teens who view this presentation before talking with a health provider have time to reflect and personalize needed information. That leads to better use of professional time and clearer decision-making by teens when selecting or changing a birth control method.
