ABSTINENCE EDUCATION PROJECTS

Issue: When young people become sexually involved, they enter a high-risk pool. It is in the best interests of young people, their families, and society to help young people delay sexual involvement until they are older and more ready to handle the commitments and responsibilities that should go along with a sexual relationship.

Information

Teens today are growing up in a society where they see and hear more about sex than teens in past generations.

Youth now spend over 40 hours a week with all forms of media—the equivalent of a full time job!

Girls use media 7.4 hours per day.

Boys use media 8.1 hours per day.

Teens are exposed to a wide variety sexual behaviors through the media—not just sexual intercourse.
